Little Flower Girl

Little Flower Girl
5x7 inches
Coloured Pencil on drafting film

Oh what fun I had doing this piece, especially after doing a few graphite works. I just loved doing the colours and textures and was quite happy with it until I started on the legs, where I struck a few problems with the darker shadows. Not to worry - I have decided to frame and keep this piece (something I rarely do) because the colours make me happy. A huge thank you to Juno Kughler Carlson from Artist Friends Network for supplying the gorgeous reference photo. :)

Wow Karen! Not only is this beautifully done but you have remarkable patience for patterns. Check out all those stars, my goodness!!!

I would keep it too if it was my drawing. About how long did this one take?

Mona, you always say the loveliest things. I was doing all the little stars and flowers whilst listening to Idol (Australian) and it was very relaxing.

Oh she's so sweet! And so masterfully created! I'd have a hard time parting with her as well! I do the same thing - zone out and lose track of time while painting. I bought a Kindle that just arrived today, so now I'm afraid it will be even worse...I'll be losing myself in the audiobooks as I paint!

Just wonderful as always Karen! I can see your technique and skills growing ever stronger (if that's possible-for you to get even better!) Thanks for sharing your work.

Even though I love your graphite work, I can see why you are happy to be back doing color again. This one makes me happy too. I love the way you've handled the light and as said, the patterns!

Thank you Barbara - I'm so glad it makes you happy too!!! :))

Your children are just precious. Your work is wonderful. I can't make up my mind whether I like the graphite with color touches or your color work better. Both are just superb. I have to laugh at "zoning out". I do too, altho I can't listen to books on tape when painting. Can't concentrate enough (on both, guess I'm one of those who can just do one thing at a time!) I could listen when I used to carve and when I did scratchart. Scratching large areas of fur was monotonous and didn't take alot of thought!

Thank you so much Carol - I know just what you mean. We all work differently and whatever creates the most productive environment is the go!!!
