Watercolours on Arches Paper
It has been a while since I picked up a paintbrush, particularly to paint with watercolours, and I had forgotten what a joy this wonderful medium can be. A lot of my artwork tends to be very tight and realistic, and it is nice to branch out and be a little more creative and loose, which is easier with watercolours. I think because so much of my work tends to be based on realism, I am also enjoying a bit of experimentations with the world of whimsy - it always takes me back to childhood.
I just love when you do whimsy, Karen. Every thing you bring your hands to comes out so gorgeously. I'm in awe yet again.

ReplyDeleteThank you heaps Melody - I know how hard it is to stay on top of all the blogging and different sites. You have been so busy with your book illustration and not to mention you have had a challenging year. Lovely to hear from you!!! :)
ReplyDeleteI am generally more of a "realitic" fan, but this one is just beautiful Karen. I have to say- I think you are ready to write and illustrate a book now! You have such a beautiful, gentle touch to your work, it all just shines.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Carol, I feel like I am getting there too. I wanted to develop a style that is still a bit realistic, but also transports the viewer to somewhere whimsical, and whilst I know I still need some development, I can see the light at the end of the tunnel!
ReplyDeleteKaren, this fantasy illustration is so-o-o-o-o beautiful. As always, your work inspires me as an admirer and as an artist. Thank you so much.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Jan - what a lovely comment to wake up to!!! Happy holidays to you!!! :)
