Coloured pencils and pastel on Pastelmat
I ended up starting this portrait over four times. I initially used the Colourfix Suede, and whilst I found it wonderful for accepting coloured pencils and doing fine detail, unfortunately the pastel background was lifting off as I worked across the top of it on the foreground. I find that once the pastel is applied to the Pastelmat, you can work over the top of it without worrying too much that the pastel will lift off again and only requires minimal touch up at the end. I still love the Colourfix Suede as a coloured pencil surface, but probably wouldn't attempt to use it again to combine pastels with pencils.
On another note, I was thrilled to discover today, that Grandpa Elliott was selected for the Coloured Pencil Society of America International Exhbition. Only four artists were selected from outside America, so I was honoured to be included! :)

Great work on Mei. Love it.
Congratulations on your Grampa Elliott. being selected in the CPSA Exhibition. So happy for you and indeed an honor.
So well deserved Karen :-)
I'm behind with 'Blogging' but today received a post detailing all the accepted artists for the CPSA exhibition so have had a sneak preview and am delighted that I recognise so many 'names' and pictures.
Good luck with your entry - it is a fabulous portrait!!
Thank you so much Dors and Sue for your lovely congrats. This is the first time I've attempted to send an artwork overseas, so hopefully it all goes smoothly :)
Karen, your work continues to amaze me!! Really stunning. I'm SO glad you reached out to me, years ago, and that I've had the honor of getting to know you (and your work)! Keep it up.

Melody - how absolutely lovely to hear from you!!! I'm sorry it took me three days to pick up your comment - our computer has been out of action with a trojan virus! Thank you so much for taking the time to stop by - I know how time consuming it is now that there are so many sites to maintain and monitor and you always were and always will be an inspiration to me!!!
