Graphite with a hint of colour - Pippa

This is the first in a series of portraits I would like to do combining graphite with a hint of colour. The reference photo for Pippa was kindly provided by Andrea (Pencil Painting Network) and is of her delightful daughter Pippa - isn't she a cutie!!!! In future, I am going to try to avoid portraits with too many dark areas, as blending the dark to light proved a frustrating challenge, but we got there in the end.

What a stunning portrait!! This is fantastic! I just love the expression, lighting, structure, ...everything. What is the size of this work?

Thank you heaps Akiko - this one is 12 x 16 cm, so almost 5 by just over 6 inches.

It IS hard to combine dark to light, but it is SO worth it! You achieved a much more dramatic effect. As Akiko said, STUNNING!

And the codeword I have to type to publish this comment is "sequel" - can't wait to see the sequel to this one!

Hi Karen, In your "blending the dark to light proved a frustrating challenge", I think you achieved it very well! I wouldn't have thought otherwise if you hadn't mentioned it. I love the eyes!
