Collectible Custom Miniature Art Jewellery

Years ago, before getting into art in a big way, I used to make little silk ribbon embroidery ornaments and sold them on consignment in various shops. It occurred to me, yesterday, that the supplier of these little picture frame stands also made some wonderful other castings that might be suitable for collectible art jewellery. What a delicious day I had today, going back to the shop where I used to buy these castings, and then sitting down to make this first combined pendant-brooch. The cat artwork is 3x4cm (1.2 x 1.5 inches) and has been set under a layer of resin, the pendant-brooch is 4.5 x 5.5cm. I am going to offer commissioned pet and people portraits as custom jewellery from my Ebay and Etsy stores.

What a fabulous idea, Karen!! I shall have to check out your store as I have a mom to buy a Christmas present for and I am - for the first time ever - at a loss as to what to get her!

Beautiful Karen! I love wearable mini's, and it's a great idea to offer pets and people both in this format.

What do you mean about the painting being under a layer of 'resin'? Is it crystal clear spray varnish, or something else that you use for this?

Thank you so much Sherry, Barbara and Mona - the resin coating is a two part epoxy resin. You mix the two different parts together to form a really thick liquid which you then pour over whatever you want coated and it sets to a hard, glass like surface - fabulous stuff!!!!

I'm so glad you like them Akiko - they haven't had a lot of views yet - none on Etsy - but I had so much fun creating this one, so hopefully they might take off down the track.

Absolutely gorgeous Karen. I've been looking for these type jewelry settings and can't find them at a reasonable price. Lucky you. What gorgeous work and what a beautiful way to own it- you could really enjoy it even more personally.

Thank you Carol and these are very reasonably priced if you wanted to check them out. Crafty Things is the supplier (Australian based - but I'm sure they would send overseas and they do discounts for bulk purchases).

Karen, how innovative! And I love how it harkens back to the days of cameos and the original pieces of minniature art - so much of which was jewelry. I don't know how you can offer them at such an affordable price! These are sure to be hot sellers for you!

Thank you so much Deb. It's just an idea, time will tell if they take off, but it's always fun to try something different!!!
