8x10 inch Commissioned Portrait
Graphite pencil with a hint of colour on drafting film
Most of the commissions I do are either for babies or pets so it was lovely to do one that included a man as well - men are so interesing to draw with all the textures and shading in their skin, so this was a particularly enjoyable commission. I also loved trying to capture the wonderful look of pride and love as this father looks down at his little son.

Beautiful! I love the father's expression.
You certainly captured the look of pride and love. I am speechless, this is so beautifully rendered. Your clients is going to be over the moon.
Stunning work Karen.
Hi Karen,
Beautiful work! You certainly did capture the love and pride of the father. Wonderful expression.
Thank you so much Mona, Dors and Sue - your comments all mean a lot to me!!!
And capture that look you did, Karen. This is one gorgeous commission that you've done. If this doesn't bring that mommy and daddy to tears, I just don't know what will!
Beautiful portrait, Karen! I also love how this father's attention is drawn completely to the baby; it is "love" that fills this portrait.
Karen, you've grabbed a special moment in time and fixed it in graphite forever.
I showed Jez this portrait to give him a bit of motivation to finish a double portrait for a friend's 50th birthday this weekend. He thinks you're "so awesome". And you are!
Cheers,
Cindy
Thank you so much Sherry - the mother ordered this to give to the Dad for his birthday and she is picking it up tonight, so hopefully they will both be happy!!
Thank you Akiko - I was so happy when I saw the reference photo for this portrait, because of the look of pride and love on the Father's face - it is so satisfying trying to recapture emotion in your artwork.
Thank you heaps Cindy. 'So awesome' from a teenage lad is the highest praise so I'm chuffed and hope it gave him some motivation - he sounds so very talented - I hope he sticks at it.
This is very touching Karen. You've captured them beautifully. My goodness you've been a busy girl! And all so different. But as always- beautiful work.
Thank you so much Carol :)
As always, I think you captured this moment beautifully Karen. I get the sense that your drawings are more perfect than the actual photographs. You do amazing work. And while I haven't tried pencil on drafting film, I am so enjoying acrylic on it! You were the one who turned my attention to this substrate, so THANK YOU!!
Thank you so much Deb - I didn't realise your latest paintings were done on drafting film - wow!!! I've never tried the acrylics on the film, so now you have inspired me!!!
