Introducing Sophie

No artwork today, as all the pieces I've been working on lately are commissions for Christmas and I can't spoil the surprise. This is our newest addition - Sophie (a Chinese Crested Powder Puff), although this photo was taken a few weeks ago, so she has already grown. It is just as well puppies are so endearing and bring out that strong maternal instinct or else no dogs would make it to adulthood - my cupboard has never contained so many carpet cleaning products, we've had to throw out several pairs of shoes, some of my low lying books now have chewed or non existent spines and the list goes on - but who could resist that face!!! Hope everyone is having fun with their Christmas preparations - I wrapped my final present today and sent off 12 parcels interstate, which is always a lovely feeling - just the cooking and cleaning to go!!!

Sophie will be the inspiration for many drawings in the future I'll bet :-)

She's lovely (and shares her name with my year-old grand-daughter who is just slightly less destructive)!!

Oh Sophie is so cute. Won't be long before you are painting her portrait.

I can't believe we are so close to Christmas. Have lots of fun Karen and my very best wishes to you and your family.

Ahh, the "joys" of puppyhood!Sophie is such a cutie, I bet you can't stay mad for long. And so huggable!

Bo, our first dog, used to chew one shoe of a pair only, then move onto another pair. I lost all my good office shoes (stilettoes in the day) to her. I ended up getting her big cardboard boxes and stuffed animals to play with whilst we were at work.

So have you done any Sophie portraits yet??

I love the name Sophie and never got the opportunity to call a daughter Sophie, so a puppy is the next best thing - I bet your Grand-daughter is a cutie Sue!!!

I was just thinking Dors, I have to find an hour to take a zillion of photos of Sophie, before she gets too much older. Down the track, I would love to do a portrait of her, but at the moment it's commissions for others. I hope you and all your loved ones have a wonderful Christmas too Dors xx

Sophie's not so discerning as Bo (I remember Bo's face) - she'll chew both and all the shoes, and just moves from one to the next. All the shoes outside have been moved from a shoe rack to a big plastic tub with a lid, and I've learnt to put my shoes away in the cupboard, rather than leaving them lying around!!! They are a joy though, and it's really only for a short time.

Oh I can see Sophie being captured in pencils many, many times! There's no way you'll be able to resist such a cutie! :)

I think you might be right Paula - I just took a whole lot more photos - they're only puppies for such a short time and make the perfect subject for drawings :)

It is just like having a baby except you move through the stages a little faster. It is amazing how much work a puppy is but you will be pleased when he is a little older. You are right, that cuteness is one of his defences against our frustration. That little face must be very hard to discipline. Have fun with him, they are only little once!!

Thank you Wendy - they really are one of the joys in life aren't they! She is already improving and the many years of love they bring you is well worth any early inconvenience.

Karen, thanks for your kind comments. What a sweetie pie! I had not heard of this breed, she is beautiful. :-)

Thank you Mona - they are quite a rare breed. We were given our first Chinese Crested Powder Puff by a friend who bred them, and they truly are the most gentle, endearing dogs. My husband has never been a fan of dogs, but since we got Chelsea (the first dog), I can't believe how she has been able to win over his affections, and he didn't complain too much about getting a second dog as well :)Hope you and all your loved ones have a wonderful Christmas Mona xx
