Coloured pencil and Pan Pastels on black Mat Board

This artwork was done just for fun because I am enjoying experimenting with coloured pencils on black mat board and am loving some of the effects that can be achieved. Only problem is that I find the darker backgrounds much harder to scan, particularly when you have to stitch scans together as I had to in this case. I am going to take a week off from art now as we have family arriving at the end of the week, so cleaning and tidying is on the agenda and hopefully catching up on some internet correspondence. I wonder if many of you find as I do, that once caught up doing art, (apart from all the other things that call on our time), there is very little time left over for browsing all the beautiful artworks that everyone else has been creating. It's nice to take stock and have a breather every now and then and just appreciate the beauty and creativity of other people's work and I also find that it spurs me on and inspires me to improve and be more creative myself. So looking forward to catching up on all of that this week! :)

Love this Karen, that green background is so striking against the blue of the peacock.

Thank you so much for that Vic - initially, I was going to leave the background black, and then on a whim I added the green as a last minute thought, which did seem to lift the picture a bit :)

Oh I agree with you so much Karen. Sometimes there are not enough hours in day. I like to see what everyone else is doing and still do my own art work as well as looking after the family and the home.... It sure is a balancing act.
Have fun with you family/friends and look forward to seeing you back with more awesome art work.
The Peacock is fantastic... I would love to be there looking over your shoulder and watching you create the beautiful art that you do. Have fun.

Thank you heaps Dors. It seems like many people are abandoning blogs in favour of Facebook which is good and bad - everything in one place but so many posts coming in, it's hard to stay on top of them all :)

This is beautiful, and I'm amazed by how brilliant the color comes out on the black matt board, the undertone of which gives it great atmosphere.

Thank you Mona - I'm really loving working on the black at the moment just for something different :)

Those deep green mottled backgrounds are my favourite!

He's such a beautiful bird - will you be entering him into an exhibition? This is quite a big piece - amazing!

Not sure what to do with him Cindy - I probably will enter him somewhere along the way. No luck with Linky after two emails and several attempts to sign up so will have to make my own way over to your site manually - I miss you in my feed :(

Oh WOW! I have always been daunted by color pencils and pastels and this wonderful, sensational piece makes me want to try again!

Your work is beautiful Gail. Isn't it funny how we look at other people's work and it inspires us to try other mediums. I do that all the time, but somehow always come back to the coloured pencils because that's what I'm comfortable with!!! :)
