Calling for Help

For a couple of years now, I have been mulling over a project that is close to my heart, which I am calling Beautiful Human Landscapes. I would like to create a series of closely cropped, highly detailed portraits of some of the older folk in our society. These is so much emphasis in our society today on the beauty of youth and the importance of looking younger than your years. As an ex nurse and artist, I find far more fascination in a face that has endured life's ups and downs and tells a lifetime of stories. I would like to focus on people in their 80's and 90's across all nationalities. If you have some loved ones that you think might be suitable for this project then please do get in touch. I need closely cropped, high resolution and detailed photos so that I can recreate all the wonderful features of an older person's face. If I draw your loved one, you will be sent a free print of the artwork, however this is a long term project, so if you do send me a photo of your loved one, I will assume that consent is given for me to use the reference in the coming years as well.

I must apologize for not posting in a while. We had our son's 21st Birthday on Saturday night and have been busy preparing for that and all the interstate family who were travelling down for the event. We then got a phone call on Friday to say that the caterers we had booked for the event had just gone into liquidation and so it was then a mad rush to get some food together for the 70 guests we were expecting. We got there in the end and it turned out to be a lovely night.

These are also some of the artworks I have been working on over the last couple of weeks. Lola was a commission and High Tea and the Window Cleaner were both done for the upcoming Australian Society of Miniature Art National Awards Exhibition.

Step by Step Tutorial on doing Realistic Portraits using Coloured pencils and Zest-it

It is a comprehensive step by step guide on how to achieve realistic portraits using coloured pencils and Zest-it pencil blend on Pastelmat. There is also a section on how to use Pan pastels in combination with the coloured pencils to achieve a softly blended background. This particular tutorial uses a range of different brands of pencils, however, by using the Coloured Pencil Conversion Chart which is also available from by website, you can work out which of your own pencils to substitute for the ones used in this tutorial, so there is no need to go out and buy a whole lot of new pencils.
