With Love

Here is my latest ACEO which is now available to purchase on ebay. Some of the animals I love to draw are not available here in Australia, such as hamsters, and so then I rely on the generosity of photographers on sites such as flickr to allow me to use their images as reference photos. I would like to dedicate todays blog to one of those photographers "Pyza" whose reference photo http://www.flickr.com/photos/chmurka/2837700806/in/set-72157604318432847/ I used for this artwork, and several of the pieces I have done that include hamsters. It really is worth checking out her photostream to see her gorgeous little hamsters and the delightful photos she takes of them. She obviously adores these little animals like children, and I cannot view her site without breaking into a big smile. A big thankyou to her for allowing me the honour of drawing her little pets.

Beautiful, Karen! Love the rose also. You should make greeting cards out of this; it's just too cute!

Karen, is there anything you can discuss about working in colored pencil on the surface of drafting film? I haven't tried this surface yet, but I'm curious about it.

Hi girls,

Firstly a huge thankyou to Melody for giving this award - what a darling you are!!!

Thank you to everyone else for stopping by. I do appreciate your wonderful feedback and comments.

Mona, I am happy to give you any information you need on drafting film. Just wondering if you were aware that I have two tutorials on my website on using this medium. If you get a chance have a little sticky beak and if that raises more questions, I am happy to go through them with you.

Take care all

Karen

Found them Karen, thanks. From the description on your tutorial it sounds like drafting film is the same thing as Denril, and looking on line I see things listed like 'drafting vellum', would this be on the right track?

Hi Mona,

It seems so confusing there in the US (I assume you are from there), because you have so much to choose from. I have never heard of Denril. I am a little wary of anything that says vellum because that often refers to anything from tracing paper to parchment which has a little more texture than drafting film, but can still be lovely to work with. One of my US customers said she found it under the brand of Grafix - I hope that helps. I honestly don't have a brand name for you that I use because my art supplier just sells it as drafting film - with only one type to choose from.
Let me know how you go.
All the best, Karen
