OSWOA - Muhali, Baby Gorilla

Muhali, Baby Gorilla
4 x 6 inches
Acrylic on Colourfix paper
On Monday, we took our youngest to Sydney's Taronga Zoo, and one of our highlights was this eight month old gorilla, who stole our hearts. It was fascinating to watch the gorilla's behaviour and the parrallel's between them and we humans. With four sons, and three of them in their teens, I was amused to watch two adolescent gorillas wrestling with each other and struggling for dominance, whilst their silverback father looked on with mild interest. I lost track years ago of the number of times we have asked our boys to stop wrestling in the loungeroom (usually just as the news started!!!)

"Who's evolved?" is a line I stole from "Night At the Museum" and use frequently! For all the sophistications of our species, I think it's humbling to remember we are all just a bunch of primates. Incredible work of art Karen! Just incredible!!

Karen, What a sweetie! I love the fur and great job on the eyes. Nice color choices for the background and I like the halo effect.

great expression and color in this. It's interesting to know that acrylic works so well on Colourfix.

Thank you so much Deb, Barbara and Mona for your wonderful comments.
LOL Deb, we are so similar to them, or they to us, it is amazing!!! Mona, I read on the brochure for colourfix that it can be used for all wet mediums, but when I googled it, I couldn't find any other examples of acrylics on this support. It is wonderful, just enough tooth to really hold the paint, but still fine enough to allow for detail work.

What an expressive face. You've captured it so very well. Lovely little piece. The softness you've managed goes so well for the "babiness".
