Heartbreak completed

Heartbreak

8x11 inches

Coloured pencils on Pastelmat

Finally finished Heartbreak. I will try the next piece on white Pastelmat and use some solvent with the pencils to see how they go. For those of you who might be concerned for Jack and who was comforting him, his Mum is the best of mothers, and as soon as she grabbed a quick snapshot, there would have been plenty of hugs and smiles and a very happy ending. I am so grateful too, that his wonderful parents shared their photo for me to use :) xx

That's fantastic Karen! You've really captured the essence of the moment of woe.

You know I see that look on teenagers faces....they don't seem to grow out of it!

And your Word Verification is "DISCO" Time to dance...

Ha Ha - thanks Cindy - I don't think we ever totally grow out of looking pouty and sad sometimes!!! :)

I love seeing non run-of-the-mill posed portraits. I'm tempted to do something similar from my collection of Grand-daughter photos ... but she's the first/only grandchild and don't think her mum and dad want her shown in anything but the 'best light' ... will have to wait till the novelty wears off a little LOL

That's why I was so grateful to my brother and his wife Sue. We all want our kids to be shown in the best light, but portraits that depict the real human emotions are so much more interesting, yet we don't seem to get the opportunity very often to draw them. Hopefully you can do some interesting ones of your Granddaughter down the track :))

Beautiful sensitivity in the details Karen, especially in his eyebrows and hair!

Thank you Mona - they are always my favourite bits to add, as they seem to finish the portrait off and really give it character :)
