A Life Well SpentThis wonderful artist can be found on any given day painting and drawing away in a cave at The Rocks in the heart of Sydney. I was so inspired when I saw him huddled over his easle, but still enjoying what he does, and it was with his blessings that I took the reference photos. I can't tell you how many times I have started and restarted this piece in a range of mediums and sizes, (this was the piece I attempted to do the silverpoint in) and each time for various reasons it got put away and never finished. After meeting with some of the members of ASMA (Australian Society of Miniature Art) last week, I promised that I would do a piece using graphite on drafting film and do a step by step tutorial for our newsletter. I started well a few days ago, and did a couple of progress scans, but then today I got so engrossed in watching the Opening for the Winter Olympics and working on this piece that I forgot to do any more progress scans LOL. I'll have to do another piece for the tutorial!!!! What a wonderful Opening Ceremony it was too - congratulations to Cananda!!!!

It WAS a great opening ceremony! I really enjoyed the way they transitioned the sets - from skiers and snowboarders on mts. to the poetry guy on at an orator's peak...Your drawing is gorgeous! I'm sure this artist will be so honored by your piece. Will you give him a print of it? Oh, and I joined a bunch of the RedBubble groups at your urging. Now I will try to keep up with them!! :)
Karen, this is so beautiful, so sentimental for me. I'm not sure why the reaction, but maybe because I see that art in the heart never has to end as long as we are alive. I also love the paintings within paintings that I see here. You are so talented, so good with portraits. A beautiful piece! Will you send it to the artist? No greater honor than I can think of!

I probably won't send him the original Sherry as I have it in mind for a couple of miniature art exhibitions but I might send him a print - that is a wonderful idea. I look forward to seeing more of you on RB Deb, and I have a co-host for a miniature group so I definitely want to see you there once it is approved.
Sherry, it makes me so happy that this was sentimental for you - I felt that way when I saw him working away for exactly the same reasons as you.
