Latest Commission - Harriet

Harriet
8x10 inch
Coloured pencil on drafting film
It has been a long while since I have been asked to do a horse portrait, and since I always welcome a new challenge, I really enjoyed drawing this beautiful horse.
On a different note, we recently had a tornedo hit one of our small coastal towns Lennox Head, and whilst it caused a lot of structural damage, thankfully no lives were lost. Tornedos are a fairly rare event, here in Australia. It hits home then, when listening to the news this morning, and hearing of the devastating twisters in the US in the last few days that have caused both loss of life and structural damage - what a challenge it must be to live with the constant threat of these tornoados all the time. My heart goes out to those who have lost either homes or loved ones, and hope that anyone reading my blog is not affected.

It is sooo beautiful Karen - just lovely! I just want to give that velvety nose a pat.

Ah, I do love horse portraits - I used to do these when I was a teenager, for friends lucky enough to have such magnificient creatures.

I came within a bee's willy of owning my own horse last century, but the pilot's strike hit and I had to buy a car instead. (had to get to a wedding in Sydney as I was cheif Bridesmaid and hubby Best Man).

We have friends in Lennox Head who sent us a power point presentation of the tornado, and the amazing stuff that followed. If you like I can forward it to you. thankfully all are present and accounted for.

And I thought your portrayal of "Coco" was a triumph!

Cheers,

Cindy

So sorry to read about your tornedo, Karen. Glad no one was hurt but must be very scary. A beautiful portrait, and very big congrats on your recent article - looking forward to seeing it!

Harriet is quite beautiful, Karen. I think she needs a straw hat and flowers! (I love her name...) Tornadoes did fly through here on Saturday night. We were fortunate, but many around us were not. I'm going to post some photos shortly... But I caught Artoholic's turn of phrase "came within a bee's willy" and am just tickled silly!

nice job Karen. Any tornados in Wyoming are pretty small but we even have had a few over the years in Dubois which is in the mountains and really wierd.

How terrifying for you Sherry - I'm so glad you were OK, but I can't imagine living with that threat all the time. Cindy (Artoholic) is always good value - if you get the chance, check out her blog - she is thoroughly entertaining!!!
Thank you Gary - Wyoming rings a bell - is that the setting for the Brumby series of books, I read when I was young? - Hopefully you never get any big twisters!!!
